5 Ministers Uhuru likely to retain in his Cabinet
  • President Uhuru Kenyatta will pick his new cabinet once he is sworn in for a second term.
  • Some cabinet secretaries will retain their seats and others will be replaced.
  • Fred Matiang'i and Amina Mohammed are sure bets to retain their seats.

Cabinet Secretaries in President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration are waiting with bated breath to know their fate immediately after the inauguration ceremony.

Uhuru will be sworn in on Tuesday, November 28, at the Kasarani stadium, to begin his second and final term as president.

Head have to roll in the cabinet as mediocrity and complacency will not be tolerated. trendsKenya has learnt, however, that there are cabinet secretaries who have been impressive and are likely to retain their seats.

1. Charles Keter

Uhuru forced the people of Kericho county in 2016 to go back to the polls to pick a new senator when he plucked in Charles Keter to be CS for energy. Keter, according to sources within the presidency, has been impressive and is a close confidant of DP Ruto. The fact that he hails from the South Rift region which at some point felt neglected by the Jubilee administration will also add value to his stay in the cabinet.

2. Eugene Wamalwa

Uhuru handed the former MP the water and irrigation docket and Wamalwa has been running up and down to impress. There is every indication that he will retain his seat. However, word has it that Uhuru is also considering former Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba for the sports and culture docket but the question of regional balance is bedevilling him.

3. James Macharia

Uhuru has great trust in James Macharia, the CS for Transport and Infrastructure. The construction of the SGR railway and the numerous road networks have been Macharia's biggest achievement for the Jubilee administration. Uhuru first appointed him as CS for health before a reshuffle that saw him land in transport. Macharia is likely to retain his seat.

4. Amina Mohammed

If there is any surprise, in fact, shock, that Uhuru would pull on Kenyans, then it will be the sacking of Foreign Affairs CS Amina Mohammed. She is one of the CSs who have been impressive in the eyes of Kenyans. Uhuru even drummed up support for her to be AU commission chairperson but she lost. Amina will definitely be in the cabinet.

5. Fred Matiang'i

This is the man Uhuru calls upon any time he wants something to be done. Matiang'i has been in charge of three different ministries so far; ICT, education and interior. He was appointed to the ministry of education and since then everything has changed. Then he was appointed as acting Interior CS following the sudden death of Joseph Nkaissery. He has since been lethal, especially on dealing with violent demonstrations and security in general. This is another man Uhuru cannot afford to lose.

Indeed this great man has brought total paradigm shift in Kenya.

Who else do you think as been impressive as cabinet secretary in Uhuru's administration.
